Speech Contest’s Experience
Hi friends ....
We are Jessie & Luvena. We are from 7th grade, and we want to share our experience about speech contest in Tarakanita 4 Junior High School, Rawamangun in October, 2011. Our school gave us an opportunity to join this speech contest. Not just both of us, there’s our friend too, Veronica (7C) and our sophomores, Jessica Guinea and Elsie Kusnawaty from 9th grade.
At that time, after the mid test, our teachers asked us if we (Jessie, Luvena, Vero, Jessi, Erik) wanted to join the speech’s contest. We were very surprised and confused. It’s amazing, wow!! But, Miss Vina and Mam Endang did the selection too, finally three students, we and Vero, were chosen to represent our school.
We did practices after the school time or in the break time. There were three themes for the contest. And all the finalists had a chance to choose the theme for their own speech. The themes were ‘Teen Life’, ‘Go Green’, and ‘Science & Technology’. Elsie and us chose ‘Teen Life’ for our speech themes, while Vero and Jessica chose ‘Go Green’, and from our school, there was no one chose ‘Science & Technology’, because we thought there’s very difficult for us.
A day before the final day, we did the last practice for the contest, and because this was our first time, so we hadn’t had the best performances. Because of that, our teachers asked our senior, Jessica, to give an example about how to perform speech fluently. And do you know? She was very amazing! She gave an inspiration for us to be better and believe in ourselves.
Finally, we went to TarPat JHS on the final day (27th October, 2011). After arrived, we registered and we took the numbers for turns the contest. We met other twenty competitors, and we were very surprised because we thought that all of them had better skills than us. Not long after that, the judges came. There were three judges.
Then, all the contestants got their turns to show their performances. We were very nervous when we performed ... and we were pessimist to win, and yeahh .. that’s right, we didn’t win the contest.
Jessica won the first place, what a glad achievement! She made us (especially our school) proud of her.
Win or lose, it doesn’t matter for us, cause the most important thing is we‘ve got the experience. We had tried our best. We believe we still have second and more chances to join another speech contest (and maybe other English competitions), and we believe we’re able to win this contest someday, Amen.
We also wanna say thank you to our English teachers for this chance, and we promise we’ll make you proud.
Bye, see you next time.
